After a quick search and rescue a few weeks ago, we have received this letter from our 'casualty'...we thought we'd share it with you...
"I went to Wales with my family to spend a week, day walking, in the beautiful Brecon Beacons area. On July 11th I was enjoying my waterfall walk in the Ystradfellte Gorge. We reached a clearing at the base of Sgwd yr Eira waterfall and I slipped on a rock and knew that I had broken my ankle.
I have since read on the Internet a short account of my rescue and evacuation by helicopter. However it did not describe the skill and professional way in which the team from the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team organised the rescue and prepared me for evacuation by helicopter. These volunteers were extremely well organised. They explained what they were doing and gave me comfort and reassurance as they prepared me for the evacuation. When the helicopter arrived , some members even put themselves at risk to protect me and then waded into freezing water to guide the cradle that was to lift me into the helicopter. Others organised transport to get my husband to the hospital and the rest of my family back to our car.
Now, back in Australia, I still find the team's care and commitment overwhelming. I wish I could thank each one individually but that is impossible. Could you please pass on my sincere thanks to the team members and all those who assisted. I will continue to tell everyone about the wonderful service provided by the Central Beacons Mountmain Rescue Team.
Kindest regards,
Helen Tassell"
