Name: Laura Danter
Age: 28
Where do you live?
Brynmawr
Do you work? If so what is your occupation? Full/Part time?
I work full time as the Marketing and Design Executive for a social care company.
Why did you join Mountain Rescue?
I’ve always like the idea of it because I love challenges and helping people; joining the team meant I could experience both of these at the same time which sounded perfect. So when I had the opportunity to get involved in January this year, I jumped at it.
How are you finding it so far?
It’s one of those things that I wish I started years ago because I love it! The training is brilliant and no one session is the same. As the weeks progress, it gets more and more exciting as we learn new skills.
Best of all, everyone is so nice! They are all willing to help and always happy to offer us ‘newbies’ advice and support.
What do you enjoy most about it?
To be honest, I think it would be quicker to list the things I don’t enjoy. However, to name just a few of the highlights, the parts I enjoy are:
1) Having the chance to meet and make new friends with the other team members.
2) Learning new, exciting skills
3) The outdoors! You get to see the local area from a completely different angle (quite literally sometimes), which makes you appreciate just how stunning areas like the Brecon Beacons are.
4) Good old-fashioned team spirit! We have loads of fun!
