Safety Cover for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Team member Les on quad bikeCentral Beacons Mountain Rescue Team provided safety cover for a Marie Curie Cancer Care fund raising event on Saturday (22/05/2010).

Participants walked from Bailey Farm over to the Neuadd Resovoir pump house before cycling to Llangorse Lake. Throughout the course challenges were faced by the competitors.
A great day was had by all with only two casualties needing help.

Mountain Trail Challenge Continues to Support Central Beacons Mountain Rescue

The Mountain Trail Challenge 2010 is now open for registration. This years challenge, taking place on the Saturday 18th September 2010, again offers two routes, a 20 mile and 30 mile route, accross the Brecon Beacons National Park. For more details please visit the Mountain Trail Challenge website at http://mountain-trail-challenge.com/. As with previous years Central Beacons will be in attendance providing safety cover for the event so hopefully we will see you somewhere along the route!

Mountain Rescue says thanks to 2009 Cardiff half marathon runners

Once again we were present at the Cardiff half marathon with a running team comprising both CBMRT members and supporters. Our eleven runners exceeded expectations once again and returned from the race in record times. They were cheered on by team members, friends and families, and the presence of one of our response Landrovers near the finish. The weather was chilly but sunny and clear, making for perfect running conditions.

The Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team is calling for volunteers to help raise funds as operational team members are kept busy responding to incidents with six incidents in the last three days.

Team hosts day for children from Caerphilly Children's Center

The Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team is today hosting a day of outdoor events and activies for children from the Caerphilly Children's Center. 9 children with a range of mobility and learning difficulties and their parents are going to be learning how Mountain Rescue works and taking part in a series of activities which will take them through the range of things that Mountain Rescue do from working on a rockface to first aid and working with radios.

An incident for the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team this morning for a missing woman in the valleys north of Bridgend was stood down quickly when police found the missing woman safe and well.

Team spends Mothers' Day searching for missing man

SARDA search dog and handler at workEarly on the morning of Sunday 22nd March, 2009, Gwent Police asked Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team for assistance in the search for a missing elderly gent in Tredegar.

The team responded with a number of members postponing their Mothers Day arrangements to help in the urgent search for Mr Rose, a frail and "easily confused" 86-year old man. The elderly gentleman had been missing since earlier on Saturday and police were at that time concerned for the gentleman's wellbeing. Responding to Tredegar Police Station, the team set about searching the area around Tredegar alongside a number of police officers. Also involved in the search was the police helicopter and two SARDA search dogs.

2008 becomes busiest year on record

We were called last night (Friday 24 October) to a search incident which was our 78th call of the year, making 2008 our busiest recorded year.

Following the previous news item I guess it was inevitably going to happen, that 2008 becomes a record breaking year. Late last night (Friday 24 October) we were called by police to help search for a missing vulnerable male person who was missing from a local community in one of the Rhondda valleys.

2008 is set to be the team's busiest year in its history!
